Tips to Protect the Oil Painting
If the canvas paintings can be protected well, it will be stored for several hundred years, or it will be easily damaged by humidity, scratching, and even sunlight. What’s more, the oils are expected to naturally darken or come off. Therefore, how to correctly protect your oil painting is really important.
Firstly, wipe two coats of natural beeswax that can be dissolved in turpentine at the back of the canvas, it can prevent the moist air into the oil canvas to damage it.
Secondly, avoid direct sunlight for a long time, because ultraviolet rays will damage the oil and lead to fade and color-changed.
Thirdly, keep the place you put the oil painting ventilatory, and be far away from washroom or kitchen. Furthermore, make the rooms in a balanced temperature and humidity. If the oil paintings have been affected with damp, remember to dry in the shadow instead of the sunlight.
Fourthly, avoid putting paintings face to face.
Fifthly, if the acrylic painting has dust, wipe it lightly with micro-wet clean cloth. If it has lampblack, scrub it with suds and water, then quickly dry up with foam and lightly blow with fan. Apply a light solvent to restore the varnish if it is beginning to show its age.
Finally, the oil paintings can generally be preserved for several hundred years.
But with the time going, the oils will chap after several decades. If you have many collections, you can pack the canvas art with plastic cloth and put them into the wooden cases to avoid mechanical damages.
